CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 4/4 Syracuse opens play in the 2019 ACC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Wednesday, April 24 against No. 7/7 Virginia. The Orange are the No. 4 seed in the tournament, while the Cavaliers are the fifth seed. Opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Chestnut Hill, Mass.Â

ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse finished the regular season strong, winning eight of its last nine games. The Orange enter the ACC Tournament with a 14-3 overall record with its three setbacks coming against the top-three ranked teams in the nation. Syracuse, North Carolina, and Notre Dame ended ACC play in a three-way tie for second place with identical 5-2 league records, but tiebreakers gave the Orange the No. 4 seed.

Leading the Syracuse offense is All-ACC First Team selection Emily Hawryschuk. She has 57 goals and 16 assists for 73 points, all of which are career highs. Senior Nicole Levy leads the Orange in assists with 26. Syracuse's defense is led by All-ACC Second Team honoree Sarah Cooper. She leads the team in caused turnovers with 27, is second in ground balls with 28 and is third in draw controls with 30. Junior Asa Goldstock is in goal for the Orange. She has a save percentage of .430 and a goals-against average of 9.72.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
Virginia finished the regular season with a 13-10 victory against Virginia Tech. The win improved the Cavaliers' record to 12-5, including 3-4 in conference action.

Three players lead the Virginia offense, each having more than 60 points this season. Senior Maggie Jackson leads the team in points (64) and assists (34). Leading the Cavaliers in goals is senior Amy Shoemaker. She has 46 goals and 15 assists for 61 points. Junior Sammy Mueller also has 61 points on 40 goals and 21 assists. In goal for Virginia is junior Charlie Campbell, who has a .453 save percentage and a 10.96 goals-against average.

Head coach Julie Myers is in her 24th season at the helm of the Virginia program. She has guided the Cavaliers to the NCAA Tournament in each of her previous 23 seasons.

SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday's game marks the 25th meeting between the Orange and the Cavaliers. The all-time series is tied 12-12 after Syracuse beat Virginia, 16-11, earlier this season in the Carrier Dome. In the win, Hawryschuk had four goals, while redshirt junior Mary Rahal posted a career-high five points on two goals and three assists.

The winner of the Syracuse-Virginia game will face the winner of the Boston College-Louisville contest in the first semifinal on Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m.
