Orange Third Varsity Eight Races Marist, Colgate

Rome, N.Y. – The Syracuse Orange women's rowing team had its Saturday racing cut short due to inclement weather but not before the 3V8+ raced both Marist and Colgate's varsity boats.

"Facing challenging conditions of 20-35 mph winds the 3V8+ raced hard against the top varsity boats from Marist and Colgate," first year head coach Luke McGee said. "Today was an opportunity for our boat to go up against some quality competition and I was pleased with how our athletes embraced the challenge."

Marist crossed the line first in 6:42.78 while the Orange finished in 6:50.95. Colgate was the last team to finish, crossing the finish line six seconds behind Syracuse.

The varsity fours were scheduled to race later in the day but weather ended the event, hosted by Hamilton College, early.

"It was unfortunate that the fours racing was canceled," McGee said. "But we are looking forward to having the entire team in action tomorrow against Cornell and Dartmouth."

'Cuse is set to race the two Ivy League teams in Ithaca Sunday morning on Cornell's home course.
