The Syracuse cross country program will be one-of-three teams in the ACC to have both its men's and women's teams represented in the USTFCCCA Preseason Poll, announced on Tuesday.
The Syracuse men – which were picked as the favorite to win the NCAA Northeast Regional once again – check in at No. 12, while the women rank 24th to start the year. 'Cuse joins NC State and Notre Dame in having both teams represented.
The Orange men, which return All-ACC performers Aidan Tooker, Joe Dragon and Kevin James as well as All-Region performers Simon Smith and Dominic Hockenbury, received 184 points in the first poll of the season. They sit just ahead of league rival NC State and behind Oregon in the initial rankings. Defending NCAA Champions Northern Arizona are the No. 1 team heading into the season.
The 'Cuse women garnered 60 points in the poll, which has them pegged fourth in the ACC. Returning Laura Dickinson and Rachel Bonner, who both come off All-ACC seasons a year ago, the Orange are currently pegged fourth among ACC teams in the standings. Defending champion Colorado is the top-ranked team in the women's poll.
Syracuse opens the season on Sept. 7 at the Harry Lang Invitational.
