SPARKS, Md. – Syracuse's Emily Hawryschuk is one of 50 players invited to the official tryout for the U.S. team that will represent the country at the 2021 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship.
Â
Hawryschuk will be joined at the tryouts by former Orange Becca Block '13, Liz Hogan '11, Kayla Treanor '16 and Michelle Tumolo '13. Block, Treanor and Tumolo helped Team USA win gold at the 2017 world championship in Guildford, England, while Hogan is a veteran of the national team program. Current Syracuse assistant coach Sydney Pirreca is also among the invitees.
Â
Hawryschuk returns this spring, taking advantage of the NCAA's ruling that spring sport student-athletes who had their seasons impacted by COVID-19 would be granted eligibility relief. Last season Inside Lacrosse honored Hawryschuk as its Clutch Player of the Year and as a first-team All-American. She led the Orange with 39 goals and 46 points. Hawryschuk scored five or more goals in five of eight games in the shortened 2020 season and posted seven or more points three times.
Â
The Victor, N.Y. native, who was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List prior to last season, ranked fifth in the nation in points (46), eighth in points per game (5.75) and second in goals (32) and goals per game (4.88) in the final 2020 NCAA Division I statistics.
Â
The U.S. team tryouts will be held at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., from Dec. 4-6, 2020. The world championship will be hosted by US Lacrosse from July 7-17 at Towson University in Towson, Md., marking the first time the event has been held in the United States since 2005.
