Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse and Duke will make up their previously scheduled Sept. 20 Atlantic Coast Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 10 in Virginia Beach. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex – the regional home for the U.S. Women's National Team.
The Orange are 0-2 this season after a pair of one-goal losses at Virginia last weekend. Syracuse lost 1-0 to UVA in an ACC contest to open the season and battled back from a two-goal deficit to force overtime in the second game of the weekend but a goal by Virginia's Amber Ezechiels in the 76th minute handed 'Cuse the loss, 3-2, in double overtime.
Inside the Matchup
Friday is the 9th meeting between the two teams since first playing each other in 1993. Duke leads the all-time series 6-2. Last time the two met, Syracuse's Charlotte de Vries scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute to lift No. 19 'Cuse past No. 2 Duke, 2-1, in double overtime on Sept. 27, 2019.
Saturday is the second neutral site meeting between the two in program history. The first was in the 2018 ACC Tournament where the Blue Devils beat Syracuse 4-1 on Nov. 1 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Scouting the Opposition
Duke enters Saturday's game 0-3 and on a five-game losing streak dating back to Nov. 7, 2019. The Blue Devils began the 2020 season with back-to-back losses at Louisville. Duke then hosted two-time defending national champion North Carolina on Oct. 4 and was shutout 4-0 by the Tar Heels.
Noor van de Laar has scored the lone goal of the season for Duke in a 3-1 loss to Louisville on Sept. 27. Blue Devils goalkeeper Pipe Hampsch has started all three games for Duke and has a .565 save percentage with 10 goals allowed.
