EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 7/7 Syracuse travels for the first time this season to take on No. 6/6 Northwestern on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Orange look to avenge their loss to the Wildcats in the NCAA quarterfinals last season. Opening draw is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST in Evanston, Ill.

ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse won two games last weekend to improve its record to 3-1. The Orange have had a balanced offense this season with 15 players scoring at least one goal and six players with at five or more goals. They have also distributed the ball with 43 assists from 14 different players. Syracuse's offense is ranked second in the ACC and eighth in the country.

Leading the Orange offense is senior Emily Hawryschuk. She has 21 goals and 24 points so far this season. Her 21 goals rank first in the nation. Not far behind is sophomore Megan Carney with 20 points on 12 goals and a team-high eight assists.

Senior Ella Simkins has been anchoring a strong Syracuse defense. She leads the team in ground balls (8) and caused turnovers (4). Simkins has even contributed on the offensive side of the ball with one goal and one assist on the season. The Syracuse defense held last weekend's opponents to a combined five goals. In goal for the Orange is senior Asa Goldstock. Goldstock ranks fifth in the ACC in goals-against average (7.09) after shutting out both of last weekend's opponents in the first half. She has a save percentage of .455

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Northwestern beat Arizona State, 28-12, on Sunday to bring its record to 3-1, including a 1-1 mark against ACC opponents. The Wildcats beat Duke, 24-20, but fell short to Notre Dame, 17-15, at home.

The Northwestern offense is averaging 24.25 goals per game, which leads the nation. The Wildcats have three players with 19 or more points this season, including sophomore Izzy Scane (22), junior Lauren Gilbert (19) and senior Lindsey McKone (19). Scane leads the team in goals with 16, while McKone leads the team in assists with 10.

Starting in goal for Northwestern is redshirt junior Julie Krupnick. She has a 13.50 goals-against average and a .325 save percentage.

Kelly Amonte Hiller is in her 19th season at the helm of the Wildcat program. She has won seven national championships and is a four-time IWLCA Coach of the Year.

Saturday's game marks the 20th meeting between the two top-ranked lacrosse programs. Northwestern holds a 14-5 lead in the all-time series. The squads split the two meetings last season, with the Orange posting an overtime victory in the Carrier Dome, and the Wildcats recording an 18-14 victory in the NCAA quarterfinals. In the two games against Northwestern in 2019, Hawryschuk had a combined nine goals, and Carney put six goals in the back of the net.
