GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the third-straight year Syracuse has landed multiple student-athletes on the All-ACC Women's Basketball Academic Team. Gabrielle Cooper and Teisha Hyman become the tenth and 11th selections since Syracuse joined the ACC prior to the 2013-14 season.
Cooper and Hyman join 29 other student-athletes on the All-ACC Academic Team. Virginia Tech led the way with five selections. The minimum academic requirement for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team is a 3.0 grade-point average for the fall semester, as well as a 3.0 cumulative average grade-point average during the player's academic career.
Cooper, a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection, is a dual major in psychology and African American studies from David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. Cooper has appeared and started in 28 of the Orange's 29 games this season, averaging 8.4 points per contest. Her 5.5 rebounds per game is second on the team. The Lansing, Ill., native ranks second in program history in three-pointers made. Cooper scored her 1,000th point on January 16 against Georgia Tech, making her one of three active players to hit the mark.
Hyman is undeclared in the College of Arts and Sciences. The White Plains, N.Y., native was a strong contributor off the bench for the Orange in her first year, averaging 6.5 points per game. Her positive play was featured on both sides of the floor, with 32 steals in the 23 games, including a season-high seven against Boston College on Feb. 6.
The Orange check in as the No. 8 seed for the 2020 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament and play No. 9 Virginia on Thursday at 2 p.m.
