BUFFALO, N.Y. - Syracuse ice hockey's season of honors continued Wednesday night at the annual College Hockey America (CHA) banquet in Buffalo, N.Y. Six student-athletes were recognized by the conference for their performance during the season, and the team as a whole won the Team Sportsmanship award.Â
Â
Leading the honors was freshman defender Mae Batherson (5-15-20). Batherson brought home the Rookie of the Year award and also earned a spot on the CHA All-Rookie team. A native of New Minas, Nova Scotia, Batherson's 20 points are the best among CHA freshmen, and she's the only freshman in the CHA who ranks in the top-12 for Defenseman Scoring, standing fifth behind Orange captain Lindsay Eastwood and line partner Jessica DiGirolamo (8-15-23). Batherson had five multi-point games during the year, and had five points in both December and February.
Â
Sophomore forward Abby Moloughney won the Individual Sportsmanship Award and earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team after recording just one penalty in 34 games and registering 10 goals and 18 assists. Moloughney leads Syracuse in both points and goals, she's two assists behind team leader Eastwood, and she ranks seventh in the conference in point scoring. Moloughney is also tied for 12th in the CHA for power-play points. The Ottawa, Ontario, native recorded seven multi-point games, and her six-game point streak earlier this year is tied for best on the team. She finished the regular-season by scoring a pair of goals against Robert Morris Saturday en route to earning her second CHA Player of the Week nod.
Â
Eastwood brought home the Best Defender award and was also named to the All-Conference First Team. Eastwood (6-20-26) is second on the team in points and broke the program record for most career goals by a defender earlier this season when she scored her 21st against Mercyhurst on Jan. 11. Eastwood ranks third in the CHA for Defenseman Scoring and is tied for 10th in total points. The Kanata, Ontario, native blocked 38 shots in 34 games and recorded separate four- and five-game point streaks this season. She also had four multi-point outings.
Â
The league's Goaltending Champion award went to junior Allison Small. The Nestleton, Ontario, native went 6-4-2 in conference play for a league-best 1.26 GAA and .949 SV%. Small also had three shutouts.
Â
Senior forward Savannah Rennie earned a spot on the All-Conference second team after recording a career-best 21 points (8 G, 13 A), with five of those points coming on the power play and six coming in February. Her 278 faceoff victories are second-best on the team.
Â
Freshman forward Madison Beishuizen (4-12-16) rounded out the individual award winners, the Ripley, Ontario native landing on the All-Rookie Team alongside Batherson. Beishuizen's 13 points are good for second-most among freshmen in CHA play, and she ranks fifth on the team in assists.
