CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Junior Marina Markova led the offense with 18 kills and graduate student Yuliia Yastrub registered a team-high 13 digs in her return to the libero position in Syracuse's 3-0 victory at Virginia.
"I am very pleased with today," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "We faced some big obstacles, coming off the Pitt loss and losing two of our starting players. The team as a whole really stepped up. That helped us get the result we needed. I am very happy with the way the team faced these challenges collectively."
Syracuse dominated the first set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead, before Virginia got on the board, and maintained the lead throughout the set for the 25-19 win. The Orange closed set two with a 3-1 run, powered by two Abby Casiano kills, to win 25-22. In the third set, 'Cuse came back from a four point deficit at 18-14 to win 25-22 and secure the victory.
