Orange Lose in Double Overtime

No. 8 Syracuse lost 2-1 in double overtime at No. 13 Boston College on Saturday afternoon. Elizabeth Warner scored the game winner in the 74th minute to hand Syracuse its second-straight overtime loss in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) action. The Orange move to 8-6 overall and 3-2 this spring.Â
Syracuse dominated the opening quarter but Margo Carlin found her way around Syracuse goalkeeper Emily Streib in a one-on-one situation to score and give BC a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. Syracuse was unable to find the back of the cage in the first half despite a 15-4 shot advantage in the first 30 minutes. 'Cuse held a 5-3 edge in penalty corner opportunities.Â
Charlotte de Vries scored on a rebounded shot to tie the game 1-1 just two minutes into the second half. It was all Orange in the third frame, outshooting the Eagles 10-0. Neither team was able to break the tie in the fourth quarter after a 9-1 shot advantage for Syracuse in the final 15 minutes.Â
Syracuse had two big opportunities in the first overtime period but Boston College's goalkeeper Jonna Kennedy came up bit with a pair of saves. Just three minutes into the second overtime frame Warner's shot finessed past Streib to secure the win for BC.Â
Syracuse returns home to play its first home game of the spring season on Friday, April 16 when the Orange host Virginia at 4 p.m.Â
