Pro Orange: Sykes, Sparks at the Halfway Point

Syracuse women's basketball alumna Brittney Sykes scored in double figures for the Los Angeles Sparks (6-13) in eight of the final ten games leading up to the WNBA All-Star break this week. Sykes, in her second season in L.A. and her fifth in the league is averaging 9.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 19 games this season. She's made seven starts and is currently averaging a career-high 26.7 minutes per game.

Despite Los Angeles losing its last six games before the break, Sykes' increase in production has been impressive. She had a season-high 19 points on July 4 adding 10 rebounds and five assists for her first double double of the season. Sykes was a perfect seven-for-seven at the free throw line and was 6-for-13 from the field in the home loss to Seattle. Earlier this season Sykes reached the 1,300 career points and 400 career rebound mark.

WNBA action resumes for the second half of the season on Sunday, Aug. 15. with a six games on the league schedule. The Sparks, who currently sit 10th in the league standings, host the Indiana Fever at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET.
