Welcome Wednesday: Lana Hamilton
3/23/2022 6:02:00 PM | Field Hockey
Over the next few weeks, the incoming 2022 field hockey class will be announced. We continue the series with this week's Welcome Wednesday on Lana Hamilton.
Lana Hamilton, a Odenton, Md., native, will attend Syracuse University and play field hockey for the Orange this fall. The 5-foot-6 NFHCA High School All-American scored 42 goals and added 41 assists during her high school career at Arundel High School.Â
"We are pleased to welcome Lana to our Syracuse field hockey family," SU head coach Ange Bradley said. "She will join her former Freedom HKY teammates Brooke Borzymowski and Kate Proefrock on our team. Lana is a very fast and skilled front five player. She has very good vision and awareness coupled with a very strong work ethic."Â
Hamilton is a four year letterwinner at Arundel where she helped guide the Wildcats to their first 3A Maryland State Championship as a midfielder in 2021 and the 3A South Region Championship. As a senior she earned FHACAMD Offensive Player of the Year recognition and is a three-time All-County First Team selection, Capital Gazette Player of the Year in 2021 and was twice named NFHCA High School All-Region before earning All-America honors this past season.Â
Hamilton served as a team captain for the Wildcats and earned Washington Post All-Met Second Team honors in 2019 and First Team accolades in 2021. At the conclusion of her junior and senior seasons she was named Baltimore Sun All-Met First Team. She was named her team's Rookie of the Year in 2018 and MVP in 2019 and off the field is part of the Athletic Leadership Council.Â
A member of the Junior Olympic Team from 2018-19, Hamilton played midfield for three years on NFC/Nexus Team Selection.Â
Hamilton chose Syracuse because she loved the overall environment and feel of campus. "I knew it was the place I could call home for the next four years," she said. "Along with the campus, Syracuse offered an amazing field hockey program where I felt would be the best fit for me to continue my athletic career. Syracuse has what I want both academically and athletically."Â
She admires former Orange Carolin Hoffmann most and described Hoffmann as a gritty, smart and a devoted player who gave her all every second on the field.Â
