
Orange Lose Thriller to #6 NC State

Despite a season-high 23-point performance courtesy of Georgia Woolley, Syracuse (10-4,1-2) lost a 56-54 all-out battle to #6 NC State (12-2, 2-1) inside the JMA Wireless Dome on New Year's Day.Â

Dyaisha Fair joined Woolley in the double-digits club with 14 points. Kyra Wood came up big on the defensive end with nine rebounds.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
Alaina Rice made a layup to cut the Wolfpack's advantage to two points with just a minute left, 55-53. Woolley was then fouled and made one shot at the line. After a series of timeouts on the court, Saniya Williams went to the charity stripe with just one second remaining and made the basket to secure the Orange loss.Â

WOLFPACK ATTACK EARLY
The Wolfpack used an 11-0 run to take control of the matchup in the opening quarter. Jakia Brown-Turner put up five points for the visitors within the spurt, making it a 17-5 game with 4:05 left in the first quarter.Â

Syracuse logged six unanswered points to narrow the deficit to 19-13 with just under three minutes left in the first frame. Cheyenne McEvans made two trips to the charity stripe and made all four of her shots. Fair sandwiched a layup in between McEvans points.Â

After a back-and-forth second quarter, Syracuse entered the halftime break down eight points, 34-26.

The Orange mustered up a 10-0 run after NC State scored the opening points of the second half. Georgia Woolley keyed the stretch with back-to-back three-pointers and a layup, which knotted the game up, 36-36, with 5:52 remaining in the third quarter.Â

Over the last four minutes of the third frame, SU used a commanding run of 13 unanswered points to take a 49-40 lead, its largest of the night. Woolley and Fair both steered 'Cuse with five points apiece.

NC State proceeded to answer back with a 13-0 run of its own. Mason Hayes led the visitors with five points that gave the Wolfpack a 53-49 lead with just 2:24 left on the ticker.Â
