Syracuse women's basketball assistant coach Khyreed Carter, 30, has been named a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 Honoree. Carter is the only coach on the list from an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) member institution and is the first Thirty Under 30 honoree in Syracuse history since the awards inception in 2016.Â
Carter works primarily with the guards at Syracuse and leads all player development. His guidance has led Dyaisha Fair to earn All-ACC First Team honors and ACC All-Defensive Team recognition as one of the best defenders in the ACC. As a unit, Syracuse leads the ACC in steals per game (10.1) while Fair leads the ACC in total steals (76) and steals per game (2.45).Â
The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.
Carter is in his first season at Syracuse after having spent the previous five seasons at Buffalo as a member of Felisha Legette-Jack's staff. He arrived in Buffalo for the 2017-18 season, a year in which the Bulls reached historic heights making the first, and only, Sweet Sixteen in program history. While at UB, Carter worked in multiple roles including director of operations and assistant coach. During his five year's in Buffalo, Carter coached two MidAmerican Conference (MAC) Freshmen of the Year, all-Americans Cierra Dillard and Dyaisha Fair.Â
Carter began his career in women's college basketball as a graduate assistant at Michigan State, his alma mater, in 2015.
