WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three members of the Syracuse women's lacrosse team are nominees for the 2023 Tewaaraton Award, which is presented annually to the top female and male collegiate lacrosse player. Graduate student Meaghan Tyrrell, senior Delaney Sweitzer and junior Emma Ward were among the list of 25 nominees announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday, April 20.
Â
Tyrrell, a 2022 Tewaaraton Award finalist, ranks second in the nation in points (86) and points per game (5.73). She has recorded five or more points in 10 games this season, including a season-high 11 points in the win against then No. 2 Maryland. Tyrrell is the active Division I leader in career points (394) and assists (149). She enters the regular-season finale against Boston College needing three points to become Syracuse's all-time points leader.
Â
Sweitzer leads the nation in save percentage (.549) and ranks second in ground balls per game (3.73) and 12th in saves (139). She has recorded a career-high 15 saves twice this season and has had 10 or more saves in six contests.
Â
Ward ranks second in the nation in assists with a career-high 49. That total ranks third on Syracuse's single-season record list. Ward's 76 points this season are second on the squad and ninth in the latest Division I statistics. She has recorded five or more points in nine games this season.
Â
Syracuse's three nominees are the second-highest total for any school in the nation. Five finalists will be selected from the list of nominees on May 11 and will be invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on June in Washington, D.C.
