No. 4 Syracuse men's rowing begins its 2023 season at the PAC-12 Challenge in Redwood City, Calif., this weekend. The opposition for the weekend features three nationally ranked teams in the top 15, beginning with head-to-head races against No. 12 Wisconsin and No. 6 Northeastern on Saturday and defending IRA Champion No. 1 California on Sunday.
Syracuse looks to carry the momentum the Orange built in the fall season into opening weekend. The Varsity Eight (V8) finished first in the College Championship at the Head of the Charles Regatta, the best finish in program history under Head Coach Dave Reischman. Northeastern finished fourth and Wisconsin placed 13th on the Charles River last October.
The PAC-12 Challenge will be Syracuse's first taste of racing action this spring while all three opponents already have at least one race in the rearview.
On Saturday, the #4 Orange varsity eight lines up next to #12 Wisconsin to begin things at 12:20 p.m. and will be followed by the Second Varsity Eight (2V8+) at 12:50 p.m.
In the afternoon, the Syracuse 2V8+ will square off with Northeastern at 6:20 p.m., followed by the V8+ against #6 Northeastern at 6:50 p.m. to conclude the first day of racing.
Sunday morning features Syracuse and #1 Cal at 9:10 am (PST) for the varsity and the 2V8+ at 9:40 am (PST) to conclude the weekend slate.
