4/7/2023 5:58:00 PM | Softball
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse softball lost game two of the NC State series, 3-0, on Friday afternoon. Three solo home runs from three different Wolfpack batters made the difference in the ball game. The Orange couldn't complete the comeback, as a two-run rally in the seventh fell short.Â
Junior left-handed pitcher Lindsey Hendrix threw her third straight complete game from the circle, striking out six batters while allowing three runs on five hits. NC State starter Aisha Weixlmann also went the distance, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
In the first inning, The Wolfpack took the early lead. Infielder Hannah Goodwin took a pitch to deep right field for a solo home run, 1-0.Â
NC State added another run in the third frame. Outfielder Gracie Roberts sent a ball to deep center field for the Wolfpack's second home run of the game, 2-0.Â
The Syracuse offense found a rhythm in the sixth inning. After outfielder Angel Jasso reached safely, infielder Kelly Breen shot a line drive down the left field line for a double. With Jasso on third and outfielder Gabby Lantier pinch-running on second, Weixlmann got out of the game by forcing a line out from designated player Yamila Evans.
The Wolfpack extended their lead in the top of the seventh, as outfielder Hannah Murray homered to left field, 3-0.Â
In the bottom of the seventh, the Orange staged a late rally. Pinch hitter Geana Torres sparked the scoring run, reaching on a hit by pitch. With one out, shortstop Ryan Starr lined a single, putting runners on first and second. Infielder Rebecca Clyde loaded the bases with a drive to left. Lopez drew a walk, scoring the first run, 3-1. Infielder Tessa Galipeau hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the second run, 3-2. Weixlmann ended the game with a Jasso fly out to left field.
Syracuse finished game two of the series with two runs on six hits. Galipeau extended her hitting streak to four games with a single.Â
