
'Cuse Excels in the Classroom

A program-best 21 Syracuse University ice hockey student-athletes earned College Hockey America All-Academic Team honors. Yes to the CHA All-Academic team. This includes recent 'Cuse graduate Amanda Bäckebo, who earned Student-Athlete of the Year honors from the CHA.

Bäckebo was one of 13 to earn the recognition, which requires the skater to score a 4.0 GPA each semester of the 2019-20 season.
21 Syracuse women's hockey student-athletes earned spots on the 2018-19 College Hockey America All-Academic Team. It marks the seventh time in program history that the Orange have placed 12 or more student-athletes on the conference's All-Academic Team. This was the second highest number of athletes to be named to the team, only behind Robert Morris, who had 22 named to the team.
Amanda Bäckebo (communications & rhetorical studies), Mae Batherson (health and physical education), Madison Beishuizen (undeclared), Lauren Bellefontaine (communication & rhetorical studies), Shelby Calof (psycology), Ady Cohen (communications & rhetorical studies), Jessica DiGirolamo (communication & rhetorical studies), Lindsay Eastwood (master's television, radio, & film), Logan Hicks (politic science), Anonda Hoppner (communication & rhetorical studies), Victoria Klimek (commucation & studies), Brynn Koocher (psychology), Anna Leschyshyn (undeclared), Marielle McHale (communication & rhetorical), Abby Moloughney (forensic science and psychology), Allie Olnowich (sports management), Emma Polaski (economics), Savannah Rennie (sociology), Kelli Rowswell (physical education), Kristen Siermachesky (sport management) and Allison Small (policy studies) were honored by the conference for their academic excellence during the season.
To qualify for the CHA All-Academic Team, student-athletes must post a 3.0 GPA or better in all academic semesters in which the team was actively competing.

In total, 116 student-athletes were named to the CHA All-Academic Team. Each team in the conference – Robert Morris (22), Syracuse (21), Mercyhurst (20), RIT (19), Lindenwood (18) and Penn State (16) – has double-digit representatives.
