Syracuse senior Kamile Kralikaite is competing for a world championship for her native Lithuania at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Kralikaite will race with Ieva Adomaviciute, an accomplished international rower who has won multiple gold medals on the world stage who rowed collegiately at Washington State. Kralikaite and Adomaviciute will race in the women's pair heat 4 on September 4 at 4:35 am (ET) against Croatia, Poland, Italy and Australia.
Â
The 2023 World Rowing Championship, which begin on September 3rd and continue through 10th, features nearly 1,000 athletes from 74 delegations who will compete during eight days of racing in 27 boat classes. The rowers will compete for the title of World Champion and the opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Olympics.
Â
"My biggest goal of the 2023 season was to make the team for Senior World Championships," Kralikaite said. "I worked very hard every day with this in my head. I left America after NCAAs (in May) and i flew straight to training center in Trakai, where I spent my whole 12 weeks of summer.
Â
"Training camp was long but i enjoyed it. We worked hard every day, no Sundays off. Everyone did their best daily because everyone wanted to give it all for this season since it's a pre-Olympic year where the tickets to Olympics will be given. I looked at U23s Worlds as a short stop before my biggest task of the year - making my way to senior worlds. I did it! I felt very happy and proud of myself. Being here feels special since it's my first year in the senior arena. in a simple way - same 2000m distance, same effort, just off the start and try to go as fast as you can."
Â
Kralikaite won the U23 World Championship in July with Orange teammate Martyna Kazlauskaite in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Â
"I love racing and especially in my absolute favorite boat class – women's pair. As much as i feel excited about being surrounded by top rowers of the entire planet, I look at this championship."
Â
Kralikaite rowed for Syracuse's 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference champion varsity eight that finished eighth at the 2023 NCAA Championship. It was the first varsity eight ACC title in program history.
