Syracuse is receiving one vote in the first Associated Press Top-25 Poll of the season, announced Tuesday afternoon. The Orange, who finished 24-8 overall and 13-5 in the ACC last season, return two starters from a season ago and have been projected to finish 11th in the newly expanded Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) according to the 2024 ACC Preseason Poll, also announced Tuesday.Â
Led by third year head coach Felisha Legette-Jack, the Orange return Georgia Woolley and Kyra Wood, who helped propel Syracuse to the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament in March. The Orange added five newcomers this year, including transfers Angelica Velez (LSU) and Journey Thompson (Arizona State). Freshmen Keira Scott, Olivia Schmitt and Shy Hawkins look to make an immediate impact this year while the return of fifth-year guard Dominique Camp gives Orange fans something to be excited about. Camp missed the entire 2023-24 season after suffering a season-ending knee injury in the long preseason game for the Orange.Â
Syracuse finished last season ranked No. 20 in the AP Top-25 and peaked at No. 17 in the Feb. 19 poll.Â
Notre Dame is the preseason favorite to win the ACC, receiving 70 first-place votes. NC State received eight first-place votes and was picked second while Duke, Louisville and Florida State round out the top-5. Newly added ACC programs Stanford (7th), California (14th) and Southern Methodist (16th) make their first appearance in a ACC poll.Â
The ACC's Blue Ribbon Panel also named a ten player Preseason All-ACC Team and Newcomer Watch list, which can be found here.Â
