The Syracuse women's rowing team begins their 2024-25 campaign this Sunday with the 59th running of the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass. SU will field their Varsity 8+ in the college championship designation in the women's championship eights, slated to start at 2:25pm EST.
The Varsity 8 (Bow #12) will look to build on their 2023 finish in the event, where they placed 13th overall and eighth in the College Championship designation. This year's lineup features returners Caileigh Grimes, Zoe Acosta, Aphrodite Gioulekas, and Kaitie Dennis, as well as five new faces for the Orange while Rachel Weber, Olivia Bachert, Niamh 'Acorn' Cassidy, Katie Breeze, and Ella McKinley will represent the Orange for the first time at the event.
'Cuse will also be dedicating a boat in honor of Hattie Taylor '17, a two-time Olympian and Olympic Bronze Medalist (Paris 2024, W8+). The dedication of a brand new 4+, named "Hattie Taylor", will take place at 12:15pm on Sunday at the team's boat trailer. Taylor will be in attendance for the ceremony and dedication.
Alumnae of the Syracuse women's rowing program will also race in the women's alumnae eights as bow #16, scheduled for a 11:10am EST start time on Saturday. Hattie Taylor will stroke the Alumnae Eight for the Orange and will be joined by Katherine Isaza (coxswain), Emma Gossman, Shannon McCann, Rebecca Soja, Emma Braun, Julia Comerford, Hailey Hudson, and Lena Wang.
