HAMMOND, LA. – Syracuse beat Maryland, 11-4, and Southeast Missouri State, 3-0, on Saturday at the Southeastern Louisiana Classic in Hammond, La.

The Orange gave junior Britney Lewinski plenty of run support against the Terrapins as the righty picked up her first victory while senior Lindsey Hendrix tossed her second complete game shutout of the season against the Redhawks, striking out eight batters.

Offensively, four different players drove in a pair of runs in the wins Saturday, highlighted by junior Tessa Galipeau's two-run homer that capped off a six-run first inning versus Maryland.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARYLAND:
After giving up a one-out RBI single to begin the game, Syracuse's offense came out of the gates hot as the Orange sent 10 to the plate in the first inning.

Leading 2-1, junior Laila Morales-Alves singled in junior Kelly Breen before scoring on sophomore Madison Knight's double in the next at bat. With two outs, Galipeau added to the lead with a two-run shot, ending Maryland starter Genevieve Ebaugh's day in the circle.

Holding a 6-3, advantage, Syracuse took a six-run lead in the fourth following an RBI single and double by Posner and graduate student Rebecca Clyde, respectively. Later in the inning, Posner scored on Breen's sacrifice fly.

Michaela Jones pushed across the Terrapins' fourth run of the contest in the top of the six with an RBI triple before the Orange plated runs 10 and 11 on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly.

Lewinski made her first official start in the circle, yielding four runs across six innings of work in the win. Graduate student Jessie DiPasquale made her Syracuse debut in the top of the seventh, throwing a scoreless inning to help secure the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE:
After going hitless over the first three innings, the Orange collected back-to-back singles from Jasso and Posner to begin the home half of the fourth. The pair later swiped second and third, respectively, before scoring on Breen's double to left. Breen plated Syracuse's third run of the inning on an infield sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Madison Knight.

That was all the offense Hendrix would need as the southpaw mowed down the Redhawk hitters, allowing just five hits over seven frames.

Southeast Missouri State looked to mount a late game comeback, singling in two straight one-out at bats, but Hendrix was able to strand the runners. Hendrix completed the complete game shutout with a three up, three down seventh.

OF NOTE:

Syracuse holds a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series with Maryland.
The Orange are 2-0 in games against Southeast Missouri State.
Hendrix finished the weekend with 17 strikeouts, lowering her season ERA to 0.86.
Hendrix tossed her 18th career complete game and seventh career complete game shutout.
Syracuse has posted three shutouts in the first nine games of the season. The Orange had six shutouts in 51 games in 2023.
Syracuse is 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts through nine games.
The Orange have scored 56 runs across 56 offensive innings.
19 of Syracuse's 69 hits have been for extra bases.

Syracuse returns to Louisiana to take part in the Best on the Bayou Classic, Feb. 23-25, in Monroe, La. The Orange will face Evansville, host Louisiana at Monroe, Northwestern State and Sam Houston.
