Posner Leads Offense in Pair of Wins

MONROE, LA. – Junior Taylor Posner hit two home runs and drove in seven as Syracuse beat Evansville, 10-0, and Louisiana at Monroe, 6-1, Friday at the Best on the Bayou Classic in Monroe, La. The Orange have won four straight games and improve to 8-3 on the season.

Syracuse was firing on all cylinders Friday as the pitching staff yielded just one run on five hits and two walks across the two games while fanning 12 batters in 12.0 innings. Offensively, the Orange drew nine walks and clubbed 18 hits with six going for extra bases.

Sophomore Madelyn Lopez recorded three RBI in the win against the Aces before going 3-for-3 at the plate in the nightcap. In the circle, sophomore Madison Knight fanned six batters in four innings and senior Lindsey Hendrix improved to 5-0 following an outing where she allowed just one run in 5.1 frames. Graduate student Jessie DiPasquale relieved both contests, tossing 2.2 innings of shutout ball.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EVANSVILLE:Â
Scoreless through two innings, Syracuse opened the offensive flood gates in the third. Posner launched her second long ball of the season following back-to-back two-out singles from freshman Makenzie Foster and senior Angel Jasso, putting the Orange in front, 3-0.

Syracuse nearly batted around in the fourth and extended its lead to 7-0. The run rule came into effect in the fifth on graduate student Rebecca Clyde's double that plated pinch hitter Peyton Schemmer. The Orange reached double digits for the third time in a game this season with sophomore Vanessa Flores' two-run single.

Knight started in the circle, yielding one hit and walk across four innings. Knight also fanned a season-best six batters in the win. DiPasquale tossed the fifth, striking out the side to complete the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LOUISIANA-MONROE:Â
Posner continued her strong day at the plate, stepping to the plate with the bases loaded in the third. The junior sent the 1-0 offering from ULM starter Victoria Abrams down the right field line, scoring sophomore Madelyn Lopez and junior Kelly Breen.

The Warhawks cut the Syracuse lead in half on Morgan Brown's inside-the-park home run in the home half of the fourth.

Posner and the Orange responded with a three-spot in the next frame for the 5-1 advantage. Posner left the ballpark for the second time on the day, connecting on the second pitch she saw and sending it over the left-center wall to plate a pair. Following a Clyde walk, Flores brought her home with an opposite field double to the right-center gap.

Syracuse added an insurance run in the sixth on Jasso's sacrifice fly.

Hendrix hurled her fifth win in as many starts, yielding a lone run on three hits and one walk across 5.1 frames. DiPasquale entered the circle and registered her second scoreless outing of the day, allowing a lone hit in the final 1.2 innings.

- Posner is tied with Virginia Tech's Rachel Castine for the ACC lead in RBI with 18.
- Hendrix leads the ACC with five victories and is the only pitcher with at least five games started to win every contest.
- Posner surpassed her previous career-high of 13 RBI, which was accomplished in 30 games during the 2021 campaign.
- Syracuse has four shutouts this season after posting six through 51 games in 2023.
- The Orange has at least one extra-base hit in all 11 contests.
