
Syracuse Wins Twice in Norfolk

NORFOLK, VA. – Syracuse allowed one run in the first game before throwing a one-hit run-rule victory in the second, as the Orange defeated Quinnipiac, 4-1, and Norfolk State, 8-0, Tuesday in Norfolk, Va.

Syracuse used four pitchers across the two contests, with sophomores Madison Knight and Julianna Verni tossing the first game and senior Lindsey Hendrix and graduate student Jessie DiPasquale throwing in the second.

The Orange won all four contests over the two days in Norfolk, improving their record to 12-9 before the team returns to Atlantic Coast Conference action Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST QUINNIPIAC:Â
Syracuse scored runs in each of the first two innings courtesy of RBI singles from Posner and Knight.

Holding a 2-1 lead, the Orange doubled its run total in the fourth. With two outs in the inning, junior Laila Morales-Alves doubled in graduate student Rebecca Clyde before scoring on senior Olivia Pess' infield single.

In the circle, Knight evened her record on the season to 2-2. The righty allowed one run on three hits in five innings of work, striking out a season-best seven batters. Five of her first six outs in the contest came from strikeouts. Verni tossed the final two frames, striking out four en route to her first collegiate save.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST NORFOLK STATE:Â
Syracuse's first run of the contest came on a double steal with runners on the corners in the first. Clyde swiped second before Jasso stole home, her 11th stolen base of the season. Clyde plated the second run of the frame on an RBI groundout.

The Orange added three more runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of junior Taylor Posner.

Syracuse tacked on three insurance runs in the fourth, putting the run rule into effect.

Hendrix did not allow a hit in her two innings of work before handing the ball off to DiPasquale, who earned the win. The fifth year surrendered Norfolk State's lone hit with two outs in the fifth.

- Jasso has 45 career multi-hit games, which is tied with Hallie Gibbs and Rachel Park for tenth in program history.
- Jasso's five triples are tied with Stephanie Watts (2009) and Lisaira Daniels (2011) for the second-most in a single season.
- Verni earned her first career save while DiPasquale picked up her first win in a Syracuse uniform.Â
