Lopez Leads Orange to Series Win

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Madelyn Lopez drove in a career-best four RBI as Syracuse defeated Georgia Tech, 7-1, Saturday morning at Skytop Stadium.
The Orange (16-14, 4-8 ACC) won the series following a 6-5 walk-off victory Friday. Georgia Tech now sits at 23-14 overall and 9-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Sophomore Julianna Verni earned her second victory in as many days, tossing 2.1 no-hit frames in relief. Lopez went 3-for-4 in the win, while graduate student Rebecca Clyde also recorded three hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST THE YELLOW JACKETS:
Syracuse's offense came out of the gates hot, putting together five runs across the first two innings of play. Two batters into the home half of the first, Lopez laced a pitch from Georgia Tech starter Blake Nelemen over the right field wall for her first longball of the season. Lopez added to her RBI total in the third, singling in a pair to make it a 5-0 ballgame.
Sophomore Madison Knight was dealing in the circle for Syracuse, yielding just one hit in 3.2 innings of work. Georgia Tech's lone run of the contest came in the fourth on a double from Reese Hunter.
Junior Laila Morales-Alves continued her strong weekend at the dish, driving in a pair of insurance markers with a double in the fifth.

- The Orange pitching staff yielded just one home run this weekend to a Yellow Jacket offense that entered the weekend fifth in the country with 1.71 longballs per game.
