#10 Blue Jays Edge #8 Orange in OT

SYRACUSE, New York – No. 8 Syracuse tied the game with 12 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, but No. 10 Johns Hopkins scored on the first possession of the extra session to post a 14-13 win in the JMA Wireless Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse (4-4) scored the first three goals of the game and led, 6-2, after the first quarter. The Blue Jays (5-2) started their comeback in the second quarter, outscoring the Orange, 4-2, to cut the deficit to 8-6 at intermission.

'Cuse led, 10-9, heading into the final quarter and held a 12-11 advantage thanks to a Sam DeVito goal with two seconds on the shot clock with 4:46 remaining. The Blue Jays netted back-to-back goals to take their first lead at 13-12 with 2:23 on the clock. Johns Hopkins gained possession with 54 seconds left in regulation but a turnover by the Blue Jays gave Syracuse a chance to tie the score with 38 seconds remaining. Emma Muchnick successfully cleared the ball and was awarded a free position after a Johns Hopkins violation. She buried her shot for her second free-position goal of the night to send the game to overtime.

The Blue Jays won the draw to start overtime, and MK Lescault scored an unassisted goal to give Johns Hopkins the victory.

OF NOTE
Monday's game was Syracuse's fifth against a top 10 opponent this season. Overall, six of the Orange's eight opponents this season have been ranked in the top 15.

Caroline Trinkaus led the Orange with three goals for her third hat trick of the season. Emma Ward posted a team-high four points on a goal and three assists.
