Syracuse women's rowing senior Charlotte Ebel has been named a 2025 Syracuse University Scholar, the highest undergraduate honor the University bestows.
The Syracuse University Scholars Selection Committee, a committee of Universitywide faculty, selected the honorees using criteria that included academic achievement, independent research and creative work, evicdence of intellectual growth or innovation in their disciplinary field, a personal statement and faculty letters of recommendation.
Ebel, a triple major in women and gender studies, public relations and German language, literature and culture, is one of 12 Syracuse seniors to earn the honor. She is a member of the Renée Crown University Honors Program and was selected as a 2024-25 Syracuse University Remembrance Scholar, a University honor that was founded as a tribute to the students studying in London and Florence through Syracuse University who were killed in the Dec. 21, 1988, bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.
Ebel became Syracuse's second women's rowing Academic All-American last year and the first since Tammy Zettler (1997) to earn the distinction. She is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll honoree and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team in both 2023 and 2024. She was also tabbed as a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete each of the last two years and was selected as a 2024 CSC Academic-All District honoree.
On the water, Ebel raced in Syracuse's second varsity eight last weekend that earned ACC Crew of the Week honors on Tuesday. The boat earned victories over Michigan, Penn and Ohio State in the B1G/ACC/Ivy Dual in Cherry Hill, N.J.
Ebel was part of the second varsity eight that won last spring's ACC Championship in a course record time of 6:19.406 and helped Syracuse its first ACC title in program history. The Urbana, Ill. Native also rowed in the second varsity eight that placed 13th in last year's NCAA Championship.
Ebel and the Orange return to action on April 5 for the Cayuga Cup in Saratoga, N.Y. Syracuse will compete against #6 Yale and Cornell.
