Orange Wins Third Straight, 61-45 Versus Manhattan

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse senior forward Chineze Nwagbo scored a season-high 17 points to lead the Orange to a 61-45 win against the Manhattan Jaspers on Wednesday, Nov. 24. Syracuse is now 3-0 for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
Junior guard Lauren Kohn contributed 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers. She also grabbed a career-best seven defensive rebounds.
Senior guard Krystalyn Ellerbe posted a career-high six assists to go with her five points. Freshman forward Sara Antolick led the team with eight rebounds, matching her season high. Senior guard Rochelle Coleman had nine points, all in the first half. Coleman was 3-for-3 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers.
Manhattan (1-1) took an early 6-4 lead, but SU came back to tie the score at 9-9. Kohn hit her first three-pointer with 12:53 left in the half to give the Orange a 12-9 advantage that it would not give up for the remainder of the contest. The shot started a 23-8 run for the Orange during the next nine minutes to give SU a 32-17 advantage with 2:58 left in the half. Manhattan scored eight of the last 12 points of the half to cut SU's halftime lead to 36-25.
Both teams struggled on offense to open the second half with no points put on the board for the first 4:56. Serra Sangar ended the drought with a jumper to bring the Jaspers to within nine. SU went on an 8-0 run to extend its lead to 44-27 with 11:33 left in the game. Nwagbo had four points during the spurt. Syracuse led by as many as 19 points in the second half.
Syracuse native Donnette Reed led the Jaspers in scoring with 14 points and posted four assists. Sangar added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Ten of the eleven Orange players that got into the game scored. SU's bench outscored Manhattan's bench, 21-8. Syracuse also enjoyed a 32-18 advantage in points in the paint.
The Orange are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 28 at Quinnipiac. Syracuse's next home game is Thursday, Dec. 2 versus Binghamton at 7 p.m.
