Three Wins in a Row for Orange Icers

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey team strung together its second three-game winning streak of the season with a 5-1 victory at the Wonderland of Ice against Sacred Heart on Friday night. Four different Orange found the back of the net in the four-goal victory as Syracuse skates down the final stretch of the regular season.
The last time Syracuse defeated three teams in succession was back in October when SU knocked off Quinnipiac for the program's first victory on Oct. 18, 2-0. The following weekend, Syracuse welcomed Sacred Heart, drumming the Pioneers in the home opener 10-0 and then 7-3 on the backend.
Freshman Lisa Mullan notched her first career two-goal game against the Pioneers on Friday night. The Victoria, British Columbia native potted SU's third and fifth goals of the game and is now tied for the most points on the team with 17. Mullan also leads all skaters with 12 assists through 24 games and is currently riding a two-game pointstreak.
Freshman forward Jessica Frump attained her second career game-winning goal on Friday night. Both markers Frump has accounted for have counted as the game-clincher. The Saugus, Calif. native tallied her sixth point of the season by way of two assists later in the game denoting her first-career three-point outing.
Senior Nikki Leone took over the club lead in powerplay goals with her third of the season by chalking up the first marker of the contest. Leone also added an assist on Frump's first tally for her third game with two points. Leone's previous two-point jaunts came against the last two encounters with Sacred Heart. The fourth-year transfer leads all defenseman with 10 points on the season (5G, 5A).
Sophomore transfer Rebecca Gordon recorded her third tally of the season, also.
The Syracuse defense suppressed the Pioneers' offense to 19 shots on the night while junior goaltender Lucy Schoedel anchored the unit with 18 saves. SU's goalkeeper has made 651 on the season and is allowing 3.0 goals per game.
At 18:10 of the first period, Brittany Hartman was sent off for holding, enabling Leone to fire one to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead on the powerplay marker with only 26 second remaining in the session at 19:34. Freshman Megan Skelly and sophomore co-captain Stefanie Marty were awarded the assists. Skelly's helper kept her tied for the team points lead with 17 on the season while Marty recorded her 16th of the year.
Syracuse attacked immediately out of the chute in the second stanza on the Frump-Leone connection at 1:12 for the 2-0 edge.
Sacred Heart's Gina Arnone answered at 4:53 of the second to cut the Orange's advantage in half, 2-1.
Virtually two minutes later, Mullan lit the lamp at 6:51 of the middle session on a feed from sophomore Cheyenne Bojeski. Frump was recognized with the first assist to put SU back up two, 3-1.
Gordon busted the net a minute and change later at 7:59 of the second on a dish from sophomore Keeta Koalska. Koalska's assist accounted for her third of the season.
Mullan added the final blow at 13:57 of the third period from the same two icers that facilitated the goal in the second period. Bojeski logged her second career two-point game via her fourth assist of the season while Frump engineered the assault on her second assist of the contest, third point overall.
Mullan and Frump led all skaters with a +3 rating in Friday's victory.
Syracuse and Sacred Heart will meet up again for the final time of the regular season at the Wonderland of Ice at 2 pm. The Orange is in search of its first four-game winning streak in school history.
