
Michael Merits First BIG EAST Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior forward Nicole Michael was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the first time this season for her 23-point, 12-rebound performance in SU's 79-78 win at St. John's on Valentine's Day. Michael's honor marks the seventh time a Syracuse player has made the BIG EAST weekly list. Senior guard Chandrea Jones has been tabbed three times, sophomore guard Erica Morrow twice and junior forward Juanita Ward once.
Michael's second consecutive double-double, fourth this season, was the 19th of her career. Michael went 10-of-14 (.714) from the floor and recorded a game-best three steals and one block.
Her 16 career 20+ point games are the most ever in SU history and her 19 career double-doubles rank tied for seventh all-time at SU.
Michael is just the sixth player in SU history to record 1,100+ points and 600+ rebounds. Michael has amassed 1,162 points in 81 career games to rank 12th on Syracuse's all-time scoring chart. Her 647 rebounds are ninth on SU's all-time chart.
The junior is averaging 14.3 points and a team-best 1.0 blocks per game. She has also added 8.1 rebounds per contest. Michael has made 49.6 percent (112-226) of her attempts. The junior has 15 double-figure games (including nine of her last 10), 10 15+ point games and five 20+ point game. She has led SU in scoring five times, rebounding eight times, steals three times and blocks on 10 occasions.
Syracuse returns to the Carrier Dome for a two-game set, starting off with Tuesday's "Think Pink" game against DePaul at 8 p.m. The game has been designated a "Pink Out" and fans who participate by wearing a pink shirt can purchase a general admission ticket for $4. By wearing your pink shirt, you will also receive a FREE Breast Cancer Awareness cupcake with any purchase from the concession stand (while supplies last).
Breast Cancer survivors will be in attendance and pink ribbons will be distributed to all in an effort of breast cancer awareness. Players will partake by wearing pink t-shirts during warm ups, and pink shoelaces during the game, while coaches will also participate by wearing pink. The Susan G. Komen Foundation will be in attendance. The Official “Think Pink” t-shirts sponsored by AmeriCU Credit Union commemorating the event will be thrown to the crowd.
