Former Syracuse University women's basketball forward Caryn Schoff, the captain of the 1998-99 squad, is scheduled to be part of the first class inducted into the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame.
The ceremony is scheduled for June 28 at the Terrace Restaurant in Troy. Speakers at the event include Syracuse University men's basketball head coach Jim Boeheim and Peter Vecsey, a sportswriter for the New York Post.
In addition to Schoff, the initial class of 50 individuals includes her father and former men's basketball player Phil Schoff and former SU center Craig Forth.
Caryn Schoff amassed 583 points, grabbed 429 rebounds, dished out 106 assists and recorded 81 steals in 106 games for the Orange. She poured in 3,548 career points, while leading St. Johnsville High School to the 1992, '93 and '94 straight New York State Public High School Class D championships.
Phil Schoff made his mark at Syracuse playing alongside standouts Dave Bing and Jim Boeheim on the men's team in the 1960s. Phil Schoff went on to play in the Eastern Professional Basketball League where he averaged 40 points a game with the Schaeffer Brewers and the Utica Wreckers, earning a stint with the Atlanta Hawks.
Forth started every game (136) of his four-year tenure at Syracuse. He was a sophomore on the NCAA championship squad. He accumulated 643 points, 631 rebounds and 205 blocked shots in the college ranks.
