SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Isabel Menard and senior Ashley Cockell of the Syracuse University women's ice hockey team recently represented the Orange at the Canadian National Team evaluation camp in Calgary. The camp featured 62 other skaters from across the country and was the first step in determining Canada's National Team for various competitions during the 2010-11 season.
Menard and Cockell both have experience on an elite level as they have each competed for the National Under-22 Team. In August, Menard participated in the National Team Under-22 selection camp and earned a spot on the 22-person roster. Cockell, who recently joined the Orange after spending the last three seasons at Mercyhurst, also competed for the National Women's U-22 Team when it completed a three-game sweep of the U.S. in 2007.
The pair rejoined the Orange at practice on Tuesday to continue preparing for the program's third season. Menard, Cockell and the Orange will hit the ice for SU's home opener tonight (Oct. 1) against Northeastern at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. and will also be streamed live on Orange All-Access.
