
Orange Closes Out Regular Season With Pair of Road Games

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A spot in the BIG EAST Tournament is on the line this weekend when Syracuse closes out the regular season with a pair of road games. The Orange takes on No. 16 Marquette on Friday at 8 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wisc. On Sunday, Syracuse plays at South Florida at 1 p.m. The Orange is 6-7-4 overall, 3-4-1 in BIG EAST play. Marquette enters the weekend with 12-3-2, including a perfect 9-0 mark in conference action, while South Florida is 9-4-3 overall and 4-3-2 in the BIG EAST.
The Orange is trying to qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since the 2005 season. Syracuse is currently tied with Providence for fifth place in the American Division with 11 points. USF and Connecticut are tied for third with 14 points each. St. John's is in seventh place, one point behind the Orange and Friars. The top five teams from the American and National Divisions advance to the conference tournament.
THE SERIES AGAINST MARQUETTE
Syracuse and Marquette will meet for the sixth time Friday in Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series, 4-0-1. Since its arrival in the BIG EAST Conference in 2005, Marquette has yet to lose to the Orange.
THE SERIES AGAINST SOUTH FLORIDA
Syracuse and USF will meet for the fifth time in Tampa on Sunday. The Orange leads the all-time series, 3-2. This marks the second consecutive season that SU will conclude its regular season against the Bulls.
ANGHEL EARNS BIG EAST HONOR
Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Anghel is having one of the best freshman seasons in Syracuse history. For her efforts last weekend, Anghel was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. She recorded 14 saves and did not allow a goal in two games. Against Rutgers, Anghel made eight saves in a 1-0 victory. In a scoreless tie against Seton Hall, Anghel made six saves. She now ranks fourth on Syracuse's career record list for shutouts (6). She becomes SU's first Goalkeeper of the Week since the 2007 season.
