
Orange Thinks Pink Against Cincinnati

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The rv/rv Syracuse University women's basketball team (18-6, 5-6) looks to return to its winning ways when it hosts Cincinnati (11-12, 3-7) for Think Pink Day on Saturday, February 13 at 2 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. A victory would give SU a program-best tying record after 25 games, while senior forward Nicole Michael is on the brink of breaking another Syracuse record as she is just 12 rebounds shy of tying Orange great Felisha Legette on SU's career rebounding chart.
The game can be seen live on the BIG EAST Television Network (Time Warner Sports Channel 13 in Syracuse) with Beth Mowins and Brooke Weisbrod calling the action. Fans can also tune to SU's flagship station, WTLA 1200 AM and 97.7 FM (WSGO 1440 AM and 100.1 FM in Oswego) or to Syracuse's student station, WJPZ 89.1 FM. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness. Those wearing pink can purchase a general admission ticket for just $4, while those donning pink and make a food/beverage purchase at a concession stand will receive a free pink cupcake. Pink ribbons will be distributed to all fans entering the game.
Last Time Out
Senior forward Nicole Michael led the Orange for her third consecutive game as Syracuse lost, 83-69, to Villanova on Feb. 9 at The Pavilion. Michael scored 23 points and added 15 rebounds for her 28th career double-double. The game marked the first time in 64 games that Villanova has scored at least 70 points. The Wildcats won with the help of its 48.1 percent (13-27) 3-point shooting, while holding the Orange to just 21.4 percent (3-14) from behind the arc. Freshman guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas was the second leading scorer for the Orange with 13 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Erica Morrow pitched in 10 points, five rebounds and a game-high six assists.
Orange Against the Bearcats
The Orange and Bearcats have met six times dating back to 1982 with the series tied at 3-3. Syracuse first defeated the Bearcats on their run to the 2002 NCAA Tournament when it won, 70-68, in Cincinnati. The Orange managed a 71-70 dramatic win last season in Cincinnati. Senior forward Nicole Michael is averaging 21.7 points in three games against the Bearcats.
Last Meeting
After trailing by as much as 16 points, the Orange fought its way back in a contest that featured eight lead changes to pull off the thrilling one-point victory, 71-70, on Jan. 10, 2009 at the Fifth Third Arena. Juanita Ward led the Orange offense with 18 points behind 7-of-11 from the field, while Nicole Michael contributed 16 points and six rebounds. Despite struggling to defend the Bearcats' perimeter, SU crushed Cincinnati with 42 points in the paint to UC's 10.
Scouting Cincinnati
The Bearcats are 11-12 overall and 3-7 in the BIG EAST after losing, 66-50, against No. 4/3 Notre Dame on Feb. 9 in Fifth Third Arena. Kahla Roudebush scored 17 points for the Bearcats, while Shareese Ulis pitched in 13, including 2-of-2 from 3-point land. Three Bearcats are averaging double figures, led by Roudebush's 13.3 per game. Ulis (11.2) and Michelle Jones 10.0) join her in double figures. Head coach Jamelle Elliott enters her first season as head coach after taking over following 12 years of assistant coaching at her alma mater, Connecticut.
