
Orange Hosts No. 1 Connecticut

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's basketball team (19-7, 6-7) hosts No. 1/1 Connecticut (27-0, 13-0) on Wednesday, February 24 at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear orange and Pack the House as the Orange looks for its fourth 20-win season.
Syracuse's 19-7 record matches its second-best mark after 26 games in its 39-year history as the Orange was a program-best 20-6 after 26 games in 2007-08 and 1980-81. The Huskies, which are currently the consensus No. 1 in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN polls, have won 66 consecutive games for the second-longest win streak in Division I women's basketball history.

Last Time Out
Senior forward Nicole Michael shattered another Syracuse record and became the school's all-time leading rebounder as she recorded 11 boards and 14 points as SU defeated -/rv Rutgers, 76-45, at the Louis Brown Athletic Center on Feb. 22. Junior guard Erica Morrow led the Orange in scoring with 17 points and dished out a game-high seven assists for SU's first win at Rutgers in program history. The Syracuse freshmen came out strong, including guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas, who matched a career-high with 14 points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from 3-point range, while fellow freshman guard Elashier Hall recorded a career-best 10 points.
Orange Against the Huskies
The Connecticut Huskies lead the all-time series, 31-12, and have won 28 of the last 31 meetings between the two schools, including a 107-54 victory in Hartford, Conn. last season. Syracuse's last win against the Huskies came on Jan. 2, 1996 at Manley Field House when it handed UConn a 62-59 loss. Since then, Connecticut has been on an 18-game winning streak against the Orange. SU won the first five meetings in the series from 1983-86.
Last Meeting
Syracuse was faced with Connecticut's perimeter attack consisting of 18 3-pointers as the Orange lost, 107-53, at the XL Center in Hartford on Jan. 17, 2009. Chandrea Jones led the Orange with 15 points and four rebounds, while Nicole Michael pitched in 11 points and five boards. UConn was led by Maya Moore, who scored 40 points via 10 3-pointers. SU was outrebounded, 45-28, while the Huskies knocked down 52.1 percent (37-of-71) of their shots.
Scouting the Huskies
Connecticut has won 66 consecutive games for the second-longest win streak in Division I women's basketball history. The Huskies are coming off an 85-53 rout of Providence on Feb. 20, when Tina Charles matched her season-high with 26 points and Maya Moore pitched in 21. UConn held the Friars to 31 percent shooting and outrebounded PC, 41-34. Charles leads four Huskies in double figures with 18.2 points per game, while Moore (18.1), Greene (12.2) and Hayes (10.0) round out the group. The Huskies can clinch the BIG EAST regular-season title by winning two of its final three games.
