Syracuse welcomes Lehigh to the SU Soccer Stadium for its home opener on Friday at 7 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
The Orange opened the 2010 campaign with a pair of road games last weekend. Syracuse lost to William & Mary, 1-0, and tied Old Dominion, 0-0. Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Anghel made three saves and posted a shutout in her first career start. She becomes just the third player in school history to shut out her opponent in the first start of her career.
ORANGE IN HOME OPENERS
Syracuse plays on its home field for the first time this season when it hosts Lehigh on Friday. The Orange is 10-2-2 all-time in home openers. Last season Syracuse played its first nine contests on the road before hosting Providence at the SU Soccer Stadium on Sept. 24. It was the latest home opener for Syracuse since the program began in 1996.
THE SERIES
Syracuse and Lehigh will meet for the first time on the pitch on Friday. The Mountain Hawks open the season against the Orange under the direction of first-year head coach Eric Lambinus. Lehigh returns 18 players from last year's squad that posted a 9-4-5 record.
ORANGE DEBUTS
Several players made their debuts wearing the Orange in the season opener at William & Mary. Sophomore Alyscha Mottershead, a transfer from the University of Iowa, and Brielle Heitman, who attended Central Michigan last season, were members of the starting lineup against the Tribe. Joining the pair in the starting lineup were freshman Rachel Blum, Kayla Afonso and Cecilia Borgstrom. Freshman Brittany Kinmond came off the bench for her first collegiate action.
Against Old Dominion, Kinmond made her first career start, while sophomore Skylar Sabbag, a transfer from Central Michigan, made her Syracuse debut off the bench.
