CALGARY, Alberta – Sophomore Isabel Menard and senior Ashley Cockell of the Syracuse University women's ice hockey team will represent the Orange at the Canadian National Team evaluation camp, scheduled for September 22-26 at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena and Norma Bush Arena in Calgary. The camp will feature 62 other skaters from across the country and is the first step in determining Canada's National Team for various competitions during the 2010-11 season.
The players will be divided into four teams and will take part in practices and a series of intrasquad games, culminating with first-place and third-place games on Sunday, September 26.
In August, Menard participated in the National Team Under-22 selection camp and earned a spot on the 22-person roster. The selected U-22 team concluded camp on a high note as it swept the United States in a three-game series in Toronto.
Cockell recently joined the Orange after spending the last three seasons at Mercyhurst. She was an All-College Hockey America (CHA) First Team selection and the CHA Tournament MVP in 2009. She led the Lakers defense with six goals and 21 assists and was instrumental in Mercyhurst earning a trip to the Frozen Four. Cockell also has national team experience as she competed for the National Women's U-22 Team when it completed a three-game sweep of the U.S. in 2007.
Menard, Cockell and the Orange will hit the ice for SU's home opener on Friday, October 1 against Northeastern at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. and will also be streamed live on Orange All-Access.
