SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse (13-2, 1-1) remains inside the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome when it hosts Rutgers (9-6, 2-0) on Tuesday, January 11 at 7 p.m. The Orange matchup against the Scarlet Knights is "Free Youth Night" with all youth 12 and under invited to attend the matchup free of charge.
The contest can be seen live on CBS College Sports with Dave Ryan on the call and Tammy Blackburn providing color commentary. It can also be heard live on SU's flagship station ESPN 97.7 FM/1200 AM with Brian Higgins '04 on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on Syracuse's student station, WJPZ 89.1 FM. Last Time Out
Five players notched double-digits to lead Syracuse to a 75-50 victory against Seton Hall in the BIG EAST home opener on Jan. 8 in the Carrier Dome.
Sophomore guard Elashier Hall led all scorers with 16 points while adding four rebounds, three assists and a trio of steals. Senior guard Erica Morrow added 15 points and four boards while dishing out three assists and sophomore guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas also netted 15 points with four rebounds.
Redshirt freshman forward Shakeya Leary controlled the paint while helping the Orange outrebounded the Pirates, 53-42. Leary netted a career-high tying 13 points while grabbing 19 rebounds – which ties a single-game record for the Orange this season and notched a career-high seven blocks. Junior forward Iasia Hemingway rounded out the double-digit scorers, adding 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
Scouting Rutgers
Junior guard April Sykes leads Rutgers (9-6, 2-0) in scoring with 15.3 points per game, followed by redshirt junior guard Khadijah Rushdan with 13.8 points per contest. Sykes has a current streak of 12-straight double-digit scoring games. Sophomore Monique Oliver is the Scarlet Knights' third double-digit scorer with a 10.5 per game clip. Rushdan made her first appearance against Villanova after missing the previous two games due to injury.
Junior forward Chelsey Lee paces RU on the boards with 7.8 rebounds per game, while Oliver is second on the team with 6.9 per contest. Oliver is the team leader in blocks with 2.7 per game, which ranks 19th in the nation and second in the BIG EAST Conference.
Series Notes
Rutgers owns a 29-6 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams, despite losing the last three contests.
Rutgers' last victory came on Mar. 1, 2008, a 64-49 defensive battle hosted by the Scarlet Knights.
RU also holds a 16-5 record in BIG EAST regular-season matchups since they joined the league in
1995-96.
SU's 79-66 victory versus Rutgers on Jan. 13, 2010 marked the first time the Orange has beat the Scarlet Knights in back-to-back meetings (68-54 victory during the 2008-09 season) in school
history.
The 2009-10 season also marked the first time the Orange has defeated the Scarlet Knights in football
(31-13), men's basketball (81-65) and women's basketball since 2001-02, which was the first time
it accomplished the feat.
Syracuse's 76-45 win in New Jersey on Feb. 21, 2010 marked SU's third consecutive win against the
Scarlet Knights. It was also SU's fi rst win at Rutgers.
