SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore guard Elashier Hall netted a career-best 23 points but it was not enough as 25/rv Syracuse (13-3, 1-2) fell to Rutgers (10-6, 3-0), 78-67, on Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome. The Orange outscored the Scarlet Knights, 45-39, in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome a 17-point halftime deficit, snapping a 12-game home winning streak for SU.
Hall was 7-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from behind the arc in her career performance while adding a trio of rebounds. Senior guard Erica Morrow was second with 15 points while adding four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
Sophomore guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas helped the Orange to a 47-34 advantage on the boards, corralling a team-best 10 rebounds while adding five points. Redshirt freshman forward Shakeya Leary was second with eight rebounds and six points while adding a pair of steals.
Hall connected from behind the arc on back-to-back trips down the floor to give the Orange an early 6-0 cushion. Rutgers answered, outscoring the Orange 11-2 to take an 11-8 lead with 14:30 left to play in the first half.
The Scarlet Knights continued to outpace the Orange, 10-6, through the next five minutes, building its lead, 21-14, with 9:05 left on the clock. Rutgers continued to run, building its lead to 32-17 with 5:31 left on the clock and carried a 39-22 advantage into the break.
