SYRACUSE, N.Y. - 25/rv Syracuse (13-3, 1-2) squares off against its third top-10 opponent of the season when it visits 6/7 West Virginia (16-1, 3-1) on Saturday, January 15 at 4 p.m. in the WVU Coliseum.

Last Time Out
Sophomore guard Elashier Hall netted a career-best 23 points but it was not enough as Syracuse lost to Rutgers, 78-67, on Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome. The Orange outscored the Scarlet Knights, 45-39, in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome a 17-point halftime deficit.
Hall was 7-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from behind the arc in her career performance while adding a trio of rebounds. Senior guard Erica Morrow was second with 15 points while adding four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
Sophomore guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas helped the Orange to a 47-34 advantage on the boards, corralling a team-best 10 rebounds while adding five points. Redshirt freshman forward Shakeya Leary was second with eight rebounds and six points while adding a pair of steals.
Scouting the Mountaineers
#6/7 West Virginia (16-1, 3-1) experienced its first loss of the season to Marquette, 69-54, at the Al
McGuire Center on Tuesday night. WVU's 16-1 mark is still its best start in school history.
Liz Repella leads the Mountaineers with 14.1 points per game. Ali Madina follows with 13.1 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game.
West Virginia has won 28-straight games at home dating back to the end of 2008-09 season, setting the school record for most consecutive wins at the WVU Coliseum. The streak began with a 69-68 win against Syracuse on Feb. 28, 2009. The streak is currently the fifth-longest active in the nation.
The Mountaineers have held 16 of its opponents to less than 60 points. WVU's defense allows an average of 47.6 points per game, the lowest defensive average in the nation. WVU has held opponents to only 27.7 (61-220) percent shooting from 3-point range, the fifth-best average in the BIG EAST and 14th in all of Division I. The Mountaineers also lead the league and are No. 6 in the country in blocked shots as they average 7.1 a game.
The Mountaineers were selected to finish second in the BIG EAST Conference behind Connecticut.
Series Notes
West Virginia holds a slim 11-9 margin versus Syracuse in the all-time series. The Orange has won two of the last three meetings, including last season's 67-48 victory in the regular-season finale on March 1, 2010 in the Carrier Dome.
Syacuse is 3-6 all-time at the WVU Coliseum and hasn't won there since a 93-54 win on Feb. 3, 2001.
The Orange scored its most points ever versus a BIG EAST foe in a 102-88 triumph against WVU on Feb. 10, 1999. That same game also marks the last time Syracuse reached the 100-point mark.
