The fifth-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team (11-2, 3-0) hosts two games this week at J.S. Coyne Stadium, beginning with Georgetown (2-11, 0-3) on Friday at 6:00 p.m. With a win, the Orange will clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament for the fifth straight season.
The Orange will then conclude its seven-game home stand when SU squares off with Vermont (6-7) on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. SU is riding an eight-game winning streak, and is coming off two wins last week against #16 Albany (3-2) and versus Columbia (3-0).
Bradley's 100th Game At Syracuse
Friday's game against Georgetown will be head coach Ange Bradley's 100th game with SU. Bradley has a 79-20 (.798) record in four-plus seasons with the Orange, and has led Syracuse to two of the last three BIG EAST Championships.
Bradley has also led the Orange to three straight BIG EAST Regular Season Championships (2008-10). In 15 years as a head coach, Bradley is 214-81 (.725), and will coach in her 300th career game at Villanova on Oct. 28.
BIG EAST SUccess
Syracuse won its fifth BIG EAST Championship tournament title on Nov. 7, 2010. The Orange defeated No. 4 seed Rutgers, 4-1, in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship and shutout No. 3 seed Connecticut, 1-0, in the championship final.
SU clinched the 2010 BIG EAST Regular-Season Championship, going 6-0 in league play, marking the third consecutive regular-season title for the Orange.
The Orange has won a BIG EAST record 16 consecutive and 19 of its last 20 BIG EAST regular-season games. SU last lost a regular-season conference game on October 18, 2008. The previous record was 12-games set by Connecticut (10/17/98-9/22/01).
BIG EAST Leaders
Last weekend's victories against No. 16 Albany and Columbia has positioned the Orange in the top half of the BIG EAST team and individual statistics leaders.
SU leads the conference in numerous team categories, including shots, penalty corners, and shutouts. They are also ranked second in categories such as goals, goals against average, scoring margin, scoring average amongst others (see left).
Kelsey Millman is in the top-two in points (27) and assists (nine), and is in third with nine goals. Millman is also first in the conference with four game-winning-goals, while Leonie Geyer trails closely behind in second with three game-winners.
McInerney And Susek Earn BIG EAST Accolades
After leading the Orange to back-to-back wins last week, senior midfielder Liz McInerney has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. Heather Susek, who two tallied two goals and two assists last weekend, was named to the conference honor roll.
Scouting Georgetown
Georgetown University (2-11, 0-3) comes into Sunday's contest after a 1-0 loss vs. Saint Joseph's last week. The Hoyas are currently on an eight-game losing streak.
Catherine Shugrue leads the Hoya scoring attack with 12 points on five goals and two assists, while Annie Wilson and Charlotte Tierney have eight and six points this season, respectively.
Scouting Vermont
Vermont (6-7) will travel to Syracuse on Sunday coming off a 2-1 loss to New Hampshire last week. UVM has yet to win a game on the road this season (0-5).
Sophomore forward Colleen Slaughter leads the team with seven goals and is tied with senior forward Emily Bastiaanse with 14 points. Nine players have scored at least one goal this season.
