SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior forward Kelsey Millman set the school-record for points in a game with 10 and tied a SU record with goals in a game with four to lift the fifth-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team (12-2, 4-0) to an 11-1 victory against Georgetown (2-12, 0-4) on Friday night at J.S Coyne Stadium.
Millman tallied two goals and an assist in both halves to set the record previously held by Shannon Taylor. Taylor tallied nine points versus Georgetown on Oct. 10, 2008 and Colgate on Sept. 2, 2008. She also scored four goals on two separate occasions, first against Colgate on Sept. 2, 2008 and again versus Holy Cross on Oct. 19, 2008.
Liz McInerney began the scoring for the Orange as she converted on the first SU penalty corner of the evening just seven minutes into the game. McInerney ripped her shot past Hoyas goalkeeper Briana Pereira for her fourth goal of the season. Millman and two-time All-American Martina Loncarica assisted McInerney on the play.
With SU up 2-0, Georgetown answered when Catherine Shugrue knocked in a shot off a penalty corner to cut the Orange lead in half. Following the goal, the Orange defense shut down the Hoyas the rest of the game, only allowing one more shot on goal.
Syracuse reeled off the next five goals to take a 7-1 lead in halftime. The Orange would then add four more goals in the second half, making it nine unanswered, and cruised to an 11-1 victory, its largest margin of victory this season.
Six different players scored for the Orange. Senior forward Heather Susek and McInerney both added two scores, while Anna Crumb, Jordan Page and Adrian Chambers also found the back of the cage.
Syracuse looks to continue its nine-game winning streak when it takes on Vermont at 12:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Coyne Stadium.
