COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore Isabel Menard joined an elite group of twenty-five of women's hockey's most outstanding players nominated for the 2011 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented by Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. An award of The USA Hockey Foundation, the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is given annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey.
Menard has been Syracuse's leading scorer since her career began in 2009. She has tallied 15 goals and 22 assists this season, which ranks 24th in the nation in points per game. The Ottawa, Ontario native also ranks 25th in goals (15) and is tied for 22nd in assists (21). She has recorded a program record 11 multiple-point scoring games this season.
Menard has been recognized by the College Hockey America (CHA) conference on three occasions this season. She was named CHA Player of the Month once and Player of the Week two times.
Menard is enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences and has been named to Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each semester.
The award is named in honor of the late Patty Kazmaier, who was a four-year varsity letter-winner and All-Ivy League defenseman for Princeton University from 1981-86. An accomplished athlete who helped lead the Tigers to the Ivy League Championship in three consecutive seasons (1981-84), Patty Kazmaier-Sandt died on Feb. 15, 1990, at the age of 28, following a long struggle with a rare blood disease.
