SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's ice hockey team took home all three College Hockey America (CHA) weekly honors this week, following a sweep of Niagara last weekend. Sophomore Isabel Menard received Player of the Week honors, while freshmen Margot Scharfe and Kallie Billadeau earned Rookie and Goaltender of the Week, respectively.
The Orange defeated Niagara in overtime on Feb. 25 and completed the sweep, 4-2, on Feb. 26 to improve to 13-15-6 overall and 7-6-3 in conference action.
This marks the third Player of the Week distinction for Menard this season. The Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award nominee was also named Player of the Month in November. She tallied two goals and two assists last weekend. In game-one, she dished out the assist on the Orange's first goal. In game-two, Menard registered SU's first and fourth goals and assisted on the game-winning score to register her 12th multiple-point scoring game of the season. She ranks 23rd in the nation and sixth in the CHA in points with 1.33 per outing.
Scharfe scored one goal and dished out two assists in the Niagara series. She scored SU's only goal during regulation in game-one to help force overtime. In game two, she assisted on the Orange's final two scores. Scharfe has six goals and seven assists on the season, including four multiple-point outings.
Billadeau combined for 43 saves against Niagara to help Syracuse earn the sweep. She allowed just three goals to improve her goals-against average to 2.87 and her saves percentage to .906.
Menard, Scharfe, Billadeau and the Orange will go head-to-head with Niagara for the third time in just eight days in the semifinal round of the CHA Tournament on March 4 at 7 p.m. Visit SUathletics.com for details and full coverage of the tournament.
