BIG EAST Announces Opponents
6/16/2011 10:18:27 AM | Women's Basketball
PROVIDENCE - The BIG EAST Conference has announced repeat opponents for the league's 16 women's basketball teams, while also determining the home/away schedule for the 2011-12 season. After maintaining the same repeat opponent for the last two seasons, Syracuse will now match up against Georgetown twice and the rest of the league once.
The format for league play is a 16-game schedule. Each team plays 16 conference games - seven opponents home only, seven opponents away only and one repeat opponent, home and away. Each member has a total of eight home and eight away games. The rationale in determining the repeat opponents is to provide additional television inventory, for competitive issues/RPI implications as well as geographic rivalries/minimizing travel costs.
Georgetown leads the all-time series, 29-24, including the last five meetings between the two squads.
