As part of National Girls & Women's in Sports Day, Syracuse Athletics will honor retired Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Women's Administrator Barbara Henderson for her years of service to the University, the Athletic Department and as a contributor and pioneer in women's athletics at Wednesday night's women's basketball game vs. No. 3 Connecticut at the Carrier Dome.
A special ceremony honoring Henderson as Syracuse's National Girls & Women in Sports Day honoree will include many of the Syracuse women's athletic teams and will take place at halftime of the game.
Wednesday's game against the seven-time National Champion Huskies is also Syracuse women's basketball's “Pack the House” night at the Carrier Dome, with tickets just $2, powered by National Grid. As always, parking at the Dome is free for women's basketball games.
Henderson served SU as senior associate director of athletics and senior women's administrator from June 2005 until her retirement in August 2011. She supervised the women's lacrosse, softball, women's soccer, volleyball, swimming and diving, and spirit squad programs, as well as the department's administrative assistants.
Additionally, Henderson was responsible for facilities management, game administration and event management in her role of associate director of athletics.
She served on the Syracuse University Student Affairs judicial Appeal Board, the Emergency Preparedness Committee and the WAER Advisory Board. Henderson also served on the SUAD 'Cuse Awards Committee and was the SUAD Selection Committee Coordinator for the Soladay Awards. She remains on the Syracuse Sports Corporation's Executive Committee and the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors.
Henderson was inducted into the Orange Plus Hall of Fame in 2001 as an honorary member. She was honored with the 2008 Syracuse Women in Business Award and the 2009 NYSPHSAA Section III Service Award.
