PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Â Syracuse women's basketball's Kayla Alexander was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time this season and fifth of her career on Monday. The senior center averaged 27 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, while shooting 54 percent from the floor in two Orange (9-1) victories last week.
Â
Alexander earns her second BIG EAST top honor of the season in just the fourth week it has been awarded. She was also named Player of the Week on Nov. 19 and was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Nov. 26.
Â
Alexander scored a career-high 34 points, single-handedly outscoring Wagner in Syracuse's 66-28 victory vs. the Seahawks, and added 13 rebounds and three blocks. It broke her previous best of 33 points set on Nov. 26, 2011 at Binghamton.
Â
In Saturday's 83-48 win vs. Loyola, Alexander scored 20 points to run her career total to 1,661, passing Erica Morrow (1,658) for second all-time at SU. Alexander again hauled in 13 rebounds and blocked three shots. The two double-doubles were her fourth and fifth of the season. She is currently 123 point behind Nicole Michael's (2007-10) program record of 1,784 career points.
Â
A two-time All-BIG EAST selection, Alexander was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad this season.
Â
Syracuse continues its five-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 15 when it hosts Binghamton in a 1 p.m. tip-off at the Carrier Dome.
