
SU heads to the CHA Tournament this weekend, and will faceoff with Mercyhurst on Friday at 12:00 p.m.
Drinkwater, Scharfe Earn Weekly Honors

Coming off an overtime victory at Niagara on Saturday, Syracuse ice hockey sophomores Jenesica Drinkwater and Margot Scharfe each earned CHA honors on Monday. Drinkwater was named the conference Goaltender of the Week while Scharfe earned Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. Freshman defenseman Kaillie Goodnough was also named to the conference honor roll.
Drinkwater played in the second game of the weekend series at Niagara, making 24 saves to backstop the Orange to a 2-1 overtime win on Saturday. She made 14 of her saves in the second period alone. Drinkwater is 4-8-1 for SU this season with a 2.93 goals against average (28th in the nation; fourth in the conference) and .900 save percentage (31st in the nation, fourth in the conference). Her 342 saves this season are also sixth in the CHA.
Scharfe had a team high three points last weekend at Niagara (two goals, one assist). The Toronto, Ontario native played a part in both SU goals on Friday, provid¬ing the primary assist on the first Orange goal in the first period before notching her 13th goal of the season on a shorthanded effort late in the second frame. On Saturday, Scharfe buried the game-winning goal with 1:37 left in overtime to snap a five-game Orange losing streak with a 2-1 victory against the Purple Eagles. Scharfe leads the Orange with 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists). Scharfe also won 33-of-56 faceoffs last weekend (.589). She is tied for 81st in the nation in points per game (0.76), tied for 55th in goals per game (0.41) while her 14 goals are tied for fifth in the CHA and her 14 assists are tied for ninth. She also has seven points in her last five games (three goals, four assists).
Goodnough had a pair of assists at Niagara last weekend. The first came on SU's lone goal on Friday with the primary helper before adding another primary assist on Syracuse's first goal on Saturday. Goodnough is fifth on the team in scoring this season with five goals and nine assists, which lead all SU defensemen and is fifth in the conference. She is 46th in the nation in points per game among defensemen (0.42) and 45th among rookie scorers.
The Orange, the No. 4 seed in this weekend's College Hockey America Tournament, will take on regular season champion Mercyhurst on Friday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. Syracuse has advanced to the league championship game in each of the past two seasons.
