Tumolo Named Tewaaraton Trophy Finalist

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Syracuse junior Michelle Tumolo has been named one of five finalists for the 2012 Tewaaraton Trophy. The list of finalists was released by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday, May 10. Tumolo becomes the second member of the Orange to be named a finalist for the award, which honors the top male and female collegiate lacrosse players in the nation.
Tumolo was named the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team this season. She leads the team in assists (40) and ranks second in points (83) and goals (43). In the latest NCAA statistics, Tumolo ranks 12th in total assists and 14th in assists per game. She earned the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award four times in 2012. Tumolo is just the second player in school history with 200 career points and 100 career assists.
Tumolo becomes just the second player in Syracuse women's lacrosse history to be named a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy. Katie Rowan '09 was a finalist for the 2008 award.
The list of finalists also includes Florida's Brittany Dashiell, Becky Lynch from North Carolina, Katie Schwarzmann from Maryland and Northwestern's Taylor Thornton.
The five men's and women's finalists will be invited to the 12th annual Tewaaraton Awards Ceremony on May 31 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
