
Signees Butler, Roberts Named Parade All-Americans

SYRACUSE - The honors keep rolling in for incoming Syracuse women's basketball freshmen. Brianna Butler and Pachiyaanna Roberts were recently named Parade All-Americans, adding to the list of awards for Quentin Hillsman's five-member class that is ranked as the sixth-best recruiting class in the country by ESPN Hoopgurlz.
Butler, from Nazareth High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Roberts, from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., were two of the 40 top players from across the country honored by Parade, making Syracuse one of just eight programs nationally and one of two in the BIG EAST with multiple All-Americans.
Butler led Nazareth to an 18-4 record this season and a No. 1 ranking in New York City. The five-star recruit and is ranked as the No. 13 overall player in the 2012 class by ESPN Hoopgurlz. The 5-11 guard was named New York All-State First Team after leading the Lady Kingsmen to the Federation Class AA semifinals.
Butler and fellow SU signee Brittney Sykes were both named McDonald's All-Americans, becoming just the third and fourth Orange to ever earn the honor. They were also two of 26 players nationally to be invited to the USA Basketball U18 National Team Trials earlier this month in Colorado Springs, Colo. Sykes, a USA Today All-USA honoree, made the 12-member squad that will represent the USA at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship on Aug. 15-19 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Roberts led the McEachern Indians to a perfect 33-0 record and the Class AAAAA Georgia State Championship this season. The 6-1 forward guided the team to a No. 2 ranking in the POWERADE FAB 50, and is ranked as the No. 8 player to watch by ESPN Hoopgurlz heading into the 2012-13 season.
Roberts piled up 18 double-doubles as a senior, averaging 17.9 points and 10.5 rebounds en route to being named Georgia's Miss Basketball. Roberts displayed the ability to play all five positions on the floor during her senior season and also averaged 3.8 steals, 2.4 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.
Also joining Butler, Roberts and Sykes in Hillsman's 2012-13 freshmen class are Cornelia Fondren, a 5-9 guard from Memphis, Tenn. and Taylor Ford, a 6-1 forward and high school teammate of Butler's at Nazareth.
